Vital Statistics:
American's are losing their economic freedom at an alarming rate to a federal government
that is acting as a transfer agent taking tax receipts from one citizen and giving them to another for political purposes.
The 2 charts below courtesy of www.usgovernmentspending.com
show the meteoric rise in federal spending and in the type of spending over the past century in America:
Chart
1 shows total federal spending rising over the past century from $600 million in 1900 to over $3 trillion in 2009:
Chart 2 show a breakdown of the major
spending programs that comprise the total federal spend. It is easy to see that growth of the federal budget is due
in large part to income redistribution programs like Social Security, Medicare, Temporary Aid to Needy Families(TANF)
and even federal funding of Education programs. Defense spending has grown over the decade as well.
Correspondingly, the tax taking
necessary to fund this budget growth is historic as well. The Tax Foundation calculates that the number of days of work
necessary to pay federal taxes has grown from 8 days in 1900 to over 70 days today. The chart below shows the growth
of "Tax Freedom Day" in America:

So Americans today are working
9 times longer than our grandparents did just to pay our federal tax bills and this growth is due in large part to the growth
of income redistribution programs that prior to 1900 did not exist.
